Ethics & Independence

Useful research must also be responsible research.

Clarivo protects the integrity of questions, data, authorship and interpretation. We decline work that depends on deception, hidden authorship, fabricated evidence or missing approval.

Integrity commitments

What clients, collaborators and readers may expect.

01

Honest scope

We state what is included, excluded and outside current competence.

02

Visible authorship

Actual authors and contributors are named according to their roles.

03

Traceable claims

Material claims connect to sources, data or analysis.

04

Protected data

Data are minimised, accessed lawfully and handled according to the agreed plan.

05

Disclosed interests

Funding, relationships, tools and relevant conflicts are recorded.

06

Correctable outputs

Material errors are assessed, corrected and versioned rather than silently replaced.

Stop/go boundary

Desk work and approval-gated work are not the same.

Usually suitable for direct scoping

Examples may proceed when sources and permissions are lawful and no other approval is triggered.

  • Public-source evidence synthesis
  • Analysis of genuinely open, non-identifiable data
  • Methods notes and research training
  • Editing that preserves actual authorship
  • Protocol preparation before formal submission

Pause for determination or approval

Examples require an appropriate institutional, ethics, regulatory or data-governance pathway before substantive work proceeds.

  • Interaction with human participants
  • Identifiable or restricted personal data
  • Biological samples or clinical procedures
  • Access to confidential client or patient records
  • Research requiring sector, institutional or national clearance

Work we prohibit

  • Fabricating, altering or concealing data
  • Ghostwriting dissertations or assessed work
  • Inventing citations, clients, testimonials or results
  • Manipulating analysis to deliver a predetermined finding
  • Hiding material conflicts or authorship
  • Promising publication, approval or guaranteed outcomes

Work requiring associates

Large evaluations, specialist qualitative research, advanced statistics, field research and other multidisciplinary assignments are accepted only when suitable expertise, responsibility and review are secured.

Independence

We do not sell a preferred answer.

A client may define the decision and commission the work. They may not require Clarivo to suppress relevant evidence, misstate uncertainty or make an unsupported claim.

Conflicts and funding

Relevant financial, professional, academic and personal relationships are identified during scoping and disclosed in public outputs when appropriate. A conflict may be managed, independently reviewed or judged incompatible with the assignment.

Authorship and acknowledgement

Authorship reflects substantive intellectual contribution and accountability. Editing, administration, funding or access alone do not automatically qualify a person for authorship. Client and associate roles are documented before release.

Corrections and concerns

Report a suspected error, undisclosed conflict, privacy concern or integrity issue through the contact route. Provide the title, version and specific concern without sending confidential personal data. Material findings will be assessed and the public record corrected when warranted.

Raise an integrity concern

Responsible scope is part of the service.

If your assignment touches human participants, identifiable data, samples, clinical work or regulated activity, say so at the beginning. We will help identify the required stop/go question without pretending to replace formal authorities.
